            46. नाभ्यस्ता etc.—The proper scholarship for a cultured man, such as enables one to defeat hosts of disputants, has not been acquired. खड्गाग्रै: etc.—By the point of the sword strong to knock down the capacious temples of elephants, fame has not been carried to heaven. तारुण्यं etc.—Useless has youth passed away like a lamp in a deserted house.

St. LXXXIX.- & c . and far are taken together by

the commentators . But there does seem to be some little in

compatibility between the two . I would suggest that they be

taken separately as designating two different descriptions of a

corresponding to the two uses mentioned in the familiar Stanza

विद्या विवादाय धनं मदाय & c . Rimarshi takes अवररस as equivalent

to * TYT CT TU :; wrongly , I think ; is more usual and

better - S'árdúlavikridita .
