Brough

A man who has the world for his wide bed. His arm for pillow and the sky for tent. The pleasant wind to fan him, overhead Bright moon for lamplight, and his calm content His consort - were it not he lacked one thing, Life’s anxious fear, would sleep like any king.

Tawney

Stretched out at ease upon the ground, and pillowed on his arm, The houseless hermit sleeps in peace, secure from nightly harm, The breeze his fan, his lamp the moon, his canopy the sky, — What royal palace of this earth can such delights supply?

LXXXVIII One boasted: “Lo, the earth my bed, This arm a pillow for my head, The moon my lantern, and the sky Stretched o'er me like a purple canopy. “No slave-girls have I, but all night The four winds fan my slumbers light.” — And I astonished : Like a lord This beggar sleeps; what more could wealth afford?

The earth is his vast bed, the arms his ample pillow, the sky is his canopy, the genial breeze his fan, the autumnal moon is his lamp, and rejoicing in the company of abnegation as his wife, the sage lies down happily and peacefully, like a monarch of undiminished glory.
