1 , 87. For Rahu's animosity towards the Sun and Moon , and

its cause see Matsya Puriņa chap . II . , 5 , 13 and 16. ; which

is the reading adopted has a parallal in Vairagyas'ataka , St. 35 ,

where also however there is a variant but not for this word

alone . : the commentator understands to mean insensate .

He says :: . The meaning will then be that

Rahu , although insensate , attacks only the Sun and Moon . On

this construction however , an IT or some word of like import

would seem to be necessary . : might also mean having re

volved . But neither of these meanings is quite satisfactory .

TO SHIT : 372 ; 345 : đã Iarad :. This is Râma

rshi's analysis of the last compound . But it does not seem to be

correct . f must first be taken as a Bahuvrihi and then the

should be joined on with the fr affix . ¶ is somewhat

remarkable . Râmarshi explains it as fat : where f

does still require explanation . It may be the ordinary Marathi

construction meaning ' unusual valour . ' I am not aware of any

parallel instance for this . But an exactly similar word is used

both at the end and beginning of compounds . See Kumara . I. 35

for a construction of that word parallel to the present . The

commentator understands the point of the Stanza to be that an

enemy should be destroyed root and branch and not only partial

ly . But on a review of the words used here and also of the

neighbouring Stanzas , the point seems to be that expressed in

the last line of Stanza 30. - S'árdúlavikridita .
